Queen Elizabeth II Reportedly Almost Shot by Her Own Guard at 3 A.M.

Who knew a case of insomnia almost resulted in a deadly incident for the queen?

Queen Elizabeth was once almost shot by one of her own guards at Buckingham Palace when she went on a 3 a.m. walk, The Times London reported on Wednesday. According to an ex-guardsman, when the queen has trouble falling asleep, she’ll sometimes walk around the palace grounds, which is what led to the close call.

The ex-guardsman says he almost shot the 90-year-old one night, when he mistook her for an intruder. Thankfully, she quickly identified herself when he shouted, “Who’s that?!”

… But it’s her quote that will probably make you love the queen even more.

“Bloody hell, Your Majesty, I nearly shot you,” the ex-guardsman says he “blurted out” after the incident, to which she replied, “That’s quite all right. Next time I’ll ring through beforehand so you don’t have to shoot me.”
